Joppa Flats Education Center - Wednesday Morning Birding
January 4, 2012, 9:30am – 12:30pm
Joppa Flats Education Center
Bill Gette - Joppa Flats Sanctuary Director; Dave Weaver - Birder's Certificate Program graduate Audience: Adult Fee: Adults $14.00m/ $17.00nm September marks the beginning of our sixteenth year of Wednesday Morning Birding! These very popular programs provide an excellent opportunity to explore one of the most productive birding areas in the country. To date, we have seen over 310 species of birds on these Wednesday field trips. Throughout the year, we will conduct our field trips to birding hot spots in the Newburyport/Plum Island area. The focus for our programs will be the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge (Plum Island), the Merrimack River estuary, and other productive areas in Essex County. In this season, we expect to see a large number of shorebirds, egrets and herons, waterfowl, and migrating songbirds. When appropriate, we will adjust our itinerary to search for rarities reported in the area. We will depart from our normal routine and bird on Cape Ann on the following Wednesdays: November 16, December 14, and January 18. We will meet in Gloucester at the Friendly's restaurant at the first traffic circle on Route 128 for our Cape Ann trips. This program is ideal for birders of all skill levels. Preregistration is not necessary. Four-trip special: $42 members, $51 nonmembers. Trips need not be consecutive for special price. Instructions and Directions: Meet at the Joppa Flats Education Center unless otherwise noted. Call to sign up for the Wednesday Morning Birding email list. Please wear appropriate clothes and bring binoculars, spotting scopes, and snacks or lunch. Registration not required.
