Inspired by the passion of street musician Roger Ridley’s rendition of “Stand by Me,” Grammy award-winning producer Mark Johnson crossed the globe recording and filming street musicians of different faiths, backgrounds, and ethnicities, then blended their fervent delivery of blues, gospel, reggae and Afropop into one unified and moving performance. Lenny Clarke is synonymous with the Boston comedy scene since the 1970s. After a mayoral run in his hometown of Cambridge, Clarke hosted a local TV show that featured other area comics, including his good friends Denis Leary and Steven Wright, during the 1980s Boston comedy scene heyday. From there he went on to play parts in numerous televisions shows including The Job, It’s All Relative and his sitcom Lenny. Most recently he appeared as “Uncle Teddy” on FX’s hit comedy/drama Rescue Me.

VINCENT, a full-length play about Van Gogh

News for Release Vincent Van Gogh, the troubled genius artist who changed the world of art, mutilated himself and took his own life, will soon come back to life in Newburyport. Newburyport Art Association will present Vincent, a full-length two-act one-man play about Van Gogh, in its upstairs Hartson Gallery three evenings in March. Theatrical husband-wife team Doug and Kristina Brendel originally presented six performances of the show at Time & Tide Fine Art in Ipswich in September; that run was widely acclaimed and completely sold out. Now the Art Association brings them to Newburyport. Vincent Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, March 16, 17, and 18. Performances begin at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $12 for Newburyport Art Association Members and $15 for non-members. Tickets go on sale Friday, January 27 at the NAA and will be available for purchase during regular gallery hours.

Plum Island/Parker River Beach Clean Up

Meet at Parking Lot 1 in the Refuge
Dubbed "Litter to Light," the anticipated collection of three tons of trash will be hauled to the Covanta Energy plant in Haverhill for conversion to electric power. The one-day haul from the Parker River beach cleanup will generate enough electricity to power two typical households for an entire year, according to Ken Nydam, business manager at Covanta's Haverhill facility.
